Olympic host cities can reduce CO2 emissions by nearly half

The cities competing to host the Olympics can obtain major efficiency gains by coordinating their production of electricity and heating & cooling. The environment and climate could benefit as a result, too.

The four cities - Chicago, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid - seeking to host the Olympic Games in 2016 can reduce their CO2 emissions by as much as 40 per cent with district heating and district cooling systems!
